"We will examine the Maga phenomenon and understand how it can be replicated in Britain," Truss declared. "We'll be talking to the leading lights of the Maga movement."

In advance of the show's launch, there was a strong advocate. "This is the beginning of a type of revolution," stated John Solomon. His Just the News platform will publish the Truss's new podcasts.

Establishing Ties in the Conservative Media Landscape

British fellow travellers, featuring a counselor supportive of Reform, have also helped her launch the Liz Truss Show. The production is competent, if basic. She has gathered ten thousand followers in her initial seven days and her premiere garnered 67,000 views across the same period.

It is a modest start, but in making common cause with John Solomon, she is being thrust into a well-developed right-wing media network producing and amplifying Maga talking points. Central preoccupations include accusations of information control by the traditional news outlets and a goal to eradicate a so-called administrative state – which she attributes her downfall to for the swift end of her short and troubled leadership.

"Just the News is not widely recognized outside of the Maga world, but it does have gravitas there, primarily thanks to Solomon, who gives commentary on Maga platforms like the program hosted by Steve Bannon and has even interviewed Trump," noted Professor Alex Hinton, who has closely studied the Make America Great Again phenomenon.

A Contentious Ally

Her effort to import American conservative media to the United Kingdom has pushed her closer to divisive personalities such as Solomon.

He established his media outlet in the wake of scrutiny following accusations of circulating false stories about the President's actions in Ukraine, as well as controversial stories about the former US ambassador to Ukraine.

His claims were echoed throughout the conservative press, with the journalist serving as a regular guest on Sean Hannity's influential Fox News show. Donald Trump endorsed his stories.

Solomon made the reports about Ukraine in a number of opinion pieces for the outlet The Hill, where he was re-designated as an opinion writer following internal criticism regarding his reporting. His claims were pivotal in Trump's pressure for the officials in Kyiv to probe the Bidens in 2019. These actions led to impeachment proceedings against Trump. Senators later acquitted the commander-in-chief.

Not long after the journalist departed the newspaper in October 2019, the publication revealed it was performing a review of his columns about the Ukraine issue. It determined the journalist had cited untrustworthy contacts and said he "omitted important details about primary contacts in Ukraine, specifically the reality that they had been charged or were the subject of inquiries."

Entering the Ecosystem

The journalist's personal TV and radio guest spots are a indication of the political media environment Truss is entering. He talked about his endorsement of her new show on a broadcast he helps run on the right-wing channel, a conservative television outlet that is the base for the conservative firebrand Steve Bannon and on which commentator Tucker Carlson also appears. Truss has already spoken with Bannon on an early episode.

By partnering with this media figure, she has become a niche participant in a broader ecosystem of conservative media outlets that routinely cross-promote stories.

The journalist's programs have repeatedly hosted figures such as influencer Mike Benz, a conservative commentator whose disparagement of the foreign aid agency was referenced by Elon Musk as reasoning behind dismantling the government body.

A Cross-Border Foray

Even though the former PM's unnatural presentation and career difficulties have drawn derision at home, a number of stateside commentators are taking seriously her bid to revamp her image as a British branch of the Maga media.

"You have to take people like Truss seriously, although you may not want to accept their words at face value," commented a Democratic strategist, who served in the Biden administration.

"Observers witnessed how in the last election cycle the former president used that alternative press to get his message out. Undoubtedly that sphere exports and influences debate internationally. Professor Alan Finlayson, said the online conservative ecosystem was already making its presence felt in the United Kingdom.

"Online platforms transcends national boundaries," he stated. "There is a certain environment within which ideas travel – sometimes taking an extreme form and other times more moderately – but which is connected."

Hinton said the rise of the online right in the United Kingdom recently meant the "potential to have a growing impact is substantial."
