Wimbledon will follow the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Replay technology will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players will gain the right to contest particular rulings made by the official, mirroring the system already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development follows just a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Players will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the official to re-examine other situations, such as:
- Whether a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a shot touched an rival's racket or body during play.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there is no cap on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.
Practical Application
An illustrative example took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and determined Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have the system in place at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another innovation at Wimbledon this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain if a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have also revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
